Fc Bayern Munich Knockout PSG

On Wednesday, Bayern Munich eliminated Paris Saint Germain’s from the Champions League by defeating the French club 2-0 in their last-16 second leg to advance to the quarterfinals.

After Thomas Mueller dispossessed Marco Verratti within his own penalty area, Choupo-Moting, who played for PSG in their 1-0 Champions League final loss to Bayern in Lisbon in 2020, sidefooted the ball home. The six-time European winners won 3-0 overall thanks to a last-minute goal from substitute Serge Gnabry. Munich advanced to the round of eight for the fourth year in a row, but PSG will have to wait at least another year to win the coveted prize.

Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann told DAZN that his team “needed the crowd” to help them overcome PSG’s “brutal quality” in the first half. “We were far superior than our opponents in the second half and deserved to win.” Bayern captain Mueller stated his squad “had luck on their side” and hailed “their mindset and determination”.

PSG manager Christophe Galtier expressed his displeasure at his team’s inability to “make the most of their chances” and concede “a really dumb goal” as a result of Verratti’s oversight. “The dressing room is filled with frustration and sadness. We must look ahead since we cannot recreate the game.”

Vitinha of PSG, who won the ball after Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer attempted to dribble out of a crowded penalty area, had the greatest opportunity in the first half. Despite having an open goal in front of him, Vitinha’s weak attempt allowed Matthijs de Ligt to clear the ball off the line.

Nagelsmann praised De Ligt’s action and stated: “He has a fantastic drive to defend, which is amazing. The majority of defenders—nine out of ten—would have given up.” At the break, Bayern exploded out of the gate, but PSG were given a pass thanks to the clumsy feet of Choupo-Moting, who stumbled before shooting and subsequently blocked a goal-bound attempt from Joshua Kimmich.

Sergio Ramos had an opportunity to tie the score, but Sommer wonderfully palmed the ball away.

With Neymar injured and Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi having off days, Gnabry put the outcome beyond doubt by running onto Joao Cancelo’s pass and blasting left-footed into the far corner. In extra time, Sadio Mané appeared to have added a third goal for the home team, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
