Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Bid Farewell to Spotify: Archewell Audio Sets Course for New Podcasting Adventures
In a joint statement on June 15, the audio streaming subscription service and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s audio production company, Archewell Audio, announced their mutual agreement to part ways.
In August 2022, Meghan premiered the first season of her podcast, Archetypes, in which she engaged in meaningful conversations with star-studded guests such as Serena Williams, Mariah Carey, Mindy Kaling, and Paris Hilton.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Spotify recently informed its team that a second season of Archetypes would not be produced.
A representative from WME, the talent agency Meghan signed with earlier this year, stated that the team behind Archetypes is proud of the podcast they created at Spotify.
Meghan herself is continuing to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform, though specifics were not disclosed.
The news of the partnership’s end coincided with Spotify’s announcement of workforce reductions, where approximately 200 people, or 2% of Spotify’s workforce, would be affected.
Overall, while the partnership between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Spotify has concluded, Meghan’s podcasting journey is expected to continue on a different platform, allowing her to engage with diverse and inspiring guests and deliver meaningful conversations to her audience.
