Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth have announced their separation.

After 12 years of marriage, Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth are getting a divorce.

The actress and producer announced the news on her verified Instagram account on Friday in a joint statement with Toth.

The message begins, “We have some personal news to share… “We have made the tough choice to divorce with a great deal of care and contemplation.”

The couple claims in the statement that they have “enjoyed so many beautiful years together” and that they “are moving ahead with profound love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have achieved together.”

As we traverse this new phase, our son and our entire family are our top priorities, the statement said. These issues are deeply personal and never simple. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s consideration for the privacy of our family at this time.

Tennessee James, age 10, is the couple’s son.

Along with being the mother children Deacon, 19, and Ava, 23, Witherspoon is also the ex-wife of actor Ryan Phillippe.

In 2008, Witherspoon and Phillippe got divorced.
